ABOUT
Cute little strawberries increase in size down the length of this skirt to create a flowy, flouncy fabric at the bottom hem with plenty of walking room. A drawstring is woven through the top of the skirt to cinch the waistline for a custom fit. You might recognize these motifs as the classic “pineapple stitch”; however, when worked from the top down, they resemble strawberries. (Fun fact: A pineberry is a white strawberry that tastes like pineapple!)
This pattern is fully written + charted.

MATERIALS
Yarn: DK/Light—Lion Brand Coboo® in colorway “White”
-
51% cotton, 49% rayon from bamboo
-
232 yds (212 m) per 3.5 oz (100 g) cake
-
Find this yarn on lionbrand.com or visit yarnsub.com to find comparable substitutes available in your region.
Yardage Required: 5 (6, 6, 7, 7) (8, 9, 9, 10) cakes or approximately 1100 (1225, 1350, 1450, 1575) (1800, 1925, 2050, 2150) yds (1006 [1120, 1234, 1326, 1440] [1646, 1760, 1875, 1966] m)
Yarn Substitution: Visit knitsnknots.ca/pineberry-skirt for an extensive list of yarn substitutes and yarns used during pattern testing. Substitute Lion Brand Coboo with any similar DK-weight (category #3) yarn that matches gauge. Note that DK weight is often referred to as “8-ply” in Australia. Most fibers should work fine in this project, particularly plant fibers like cotton, bamboo or any plant fiber blends. Yarn with some bamboo content creates a beautifully slinky fabric that lends a lot of drape and movement to the finished skirt.
Hook: Size U.S. F/5 (3.75 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: Tapestry needle, scissors, 1 locking stitch marker

PATTERN NOTES
Skill Level: Advanced
Sizing: This skirt is written in nine sizes as follows: XS (S, M, L, XL) (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X). Make sure to follow the numbers for your size only. Sizing is based on your hip measurement. Reference the sizing chart and read all notes beneath the sizing chart before beginning.
Stitch Counts: Stitch counts are listed after each round until you begin the berry motifs. If no stitch count is given, there has been no change since the previous round. If only one number is provided, it applies to all sizes. Be sure to reference the stitch chart to check your stitch counts when working each berry.
Reversible: There is no right side or wrong side to this fabric; both sides are identical. You choose which side to wear as the “right side.”
Turning Chain: The turning chain does not count as a stitch in this pattern unless otherwise indicated.
Berry Size: In order for your skirt to increase in circumference to give plenty of walking room, there are four berry sizes to be worked, labeled as follows: Berry A, B, C and D. You will begin with Berry A (the smallest size) at your waist and increase throughout the length of the skirt, finishing with Berry D (the largest size) at the bottom of your skirt.
Wavy Fabric: Your fabric will appear wavy as you crochet each section. Do not worry about this. This slight puckering is normal, and blocking will smooth the fabric out completely.
Construction: The Pineberry Skirt is worked seamlessly from the top down while increasing the size of each berry motif down the length of the skirt. A drawstring is woven through the top of the skirt to cinch the waistline for a custom fit.
