ABOUT
Whether you’re lounging on the beach or headed out for Sunday brunch, the Bellflower Bucket Hat will bring a cool, coastal aesthetic to your outfit, leaning either casual or elegant depending on how you choose to style it. A playful lace panel resembling budding flowers elevates the look of this vintage-inspired design. There are no bad hair days with the Bellflower Bucket Hat, thoughtfully sized for the whole family.
This is the sister pattern to the Bellflower Bucket Bag (found here)—a matching bag using the same lace stitch pattern!

MATERIALS
Yarn:
Worsted held double—Paintbox Yarns Recycled Cotton Worsted in colorway “String (1300)”
-
100% cotton
-
170 yds (155 m) per 3.5 oz (100 g) skein
-
Find this yarn on lovecrafts.com or visit yarnsub.com to find comparable substitutes available in your region.
Yardage Required: 2 skeins (for all sizes) or approximately 240 (250, 275, 300, 315) yds (219 [229, 251, 274, 288] m)
Yarn Substitution: Visit knitsnknots.ca/bellflower-bucket-hat for an extensive list of yarn substitutes and yarns used during pattern testing. Substitute Paintbox Yarns Recycled Cotton Worsted with any similar medium worsted-weight (category #4) yarn that matches gauge. Cottons will work best for this project, particularly those that feel “stiff,” to lend some structure to your finished hat. Note that worsted weight is often referred to as “aran” in the U.K. or “10-ply” in Australia.
Hook: Size U.S. 7 (4.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: Tapestry needle, 8 locking stitch markers (1 being distinct from the others to use for BOR marker)
GAUGE
4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) = 13 sc and 14 rows, in the round
For Swatch
With yarn held double, work the first 7 rnds of Crown, creating a small circle. The first 7 rnds of your circle should measure approximately 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter. Once you match gauge, you can continue using this swatch to crochet the rest of your hat.

PATTERN NOTES
Skill Level: Intermediate
Sizing: This hat is graded for 5 sizes: baby (toddler, child, adult regular, adult large), written as size 1 (2, 3, 4, 5). An “x” indicates the instruction is not applicable to your size.
Stitch Counts: Stitch counts are listed after each round. If no stitch count is given, there has been no change since the previous round.
Right Side/Wrong Side: The side that faces you as you crochet each round of the crown and the brim is the right side.
Turning Chain: The turning chain does not count as a stitch unless otherwise indicated.
Joined Rounds/Spiral: The lace section is worked in joined, turned rounds, while the remainder of the hat is worked in a spiral.
Yarn Held Double: This entire pattern is crocheted with two strands of yarn held together as if they were one.
Construction: This hat is crocheted seamlessly from the top down in a spiral. You will begin with the crown, increasing until reaching your specified circumference, then you will work straight without any increases to form the sides of the hat while also integrating the lace panel into your stitches. Lastly, you will work staggered increases to create a clean, perfectly rounded brim. Note that the lace section is worked in joined, turned rounds, while the remainder of the hat is worked in a spiral.
