ABOUT
The Melrose Market Bag is made from one lacy panel that uses several rows of rapid decreases to convert a rectangle into a pouch. This simple 6-row repeat works up quickly and uses a small amount of yarn – perfect for gifting or selling at craft shows!
MATERIALS
Yarn: Worsted—Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in Ecru
- 100% Mercerized Cotton
- 186 yds (170 m) per 3.5 oz (100 g) skein
- Find this yarn on lionbrand.com or visit yarnsub.com for a list of substitutes
Yardage: 3 skeins or 425 yds (389 m)
If substituting 24/7 Cotton, choose any similar, category #4 worsted weight cotton yarn that matches gauge. Always swatch before beginning to ensure you are happy with the resulting fabric.
Hook: Size U.S. H/8 (5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: Tapestry needle, 5 locking stitch markers
PATTERN NOTES
Skill Level: Intermediate

Reversible: There is no right side or wrong side to this stitch pattern. You choose which side to display as the “right side.”
Construction: You will begin with a rectangle for the the main panel of the bag. Next, you will work a border around each side of this rectangle while also decreasing rapidly to transform your panel into a pouch-like shape. Two straps are worked separately in a spiral and seamed to the short edges of your bag.
